Tony Pottebaum Windbreak Award

The Sioux County Soil & Water Conservation District has established a Tony Pottebaum Windbreak Award. The award is given in memory of Tony Pottebaum who was a commissioner from 1983-98. Criteria to receive this award include a windbreak that is over 5 years old, must be seven or more rows, and weed control and care must be evident. The District will award $200 and a certificate to an outstanding windbreak which qualifies.

Gervin & Helen Bonnema of Orange City are the 2018 Winners.  The windbreak is located south of Orange City.  The windbreak was planted in 1991.  Species planted include Austrian pine, Colorado blue spruce, cotoneaster, green ash, and silver maple.   A total of 325 trees and shrubs were planted.  Recently a few more evergreens were added along with some replacement trees.
