Awards Program

An Annual Awards Banquet and Program is held in August to recognize landowners who have done outstanding work in soil conservation, windbreak establishment, and wildlife habitat development. Students who win at the Region 1 and State Poster Contest competition receive their certificates and cash prizes at the awards banquet as well.
 
Wildlife Habitat Award

The Wildlife Habitat Award is given to landowner or producer who has planted or seeded an area to enhance and increase wildlife habitat.

Dwane J. Cleveringa of Sheldon was chosen as the Wildlife Habitat Award Winner in 2018.  The wildlife area is located near Hospers.  All cropland on the tract which is about 80 acres was seeded down in 2016.  It is enrolled in the CRP pheasant recovery program.  There are 38 acres of CP-25 mix which includes 11 grasses and 18 forbs, 14 acres of switchgrass, 5 acres of corn food plots.  20 years ago, 15 acres of native grass filter strip was established.  A 0.5 acre windbreak planted was also planted recently.
